The club was out on duty on Saturday 9th April 2011 providing a free blood pressure checks service at St George’s Shopping Centre in Harrow. Under the watchful eyes of Doug and his team, Club Members asked passers-by if they wanted a free blood pressure check undertaken by a selection of volunteer nurses from local clinics and doctors surgeries/health centres. During the day, nearly 180 pressures were taken by the nurses. 1 member of the public was referred to the Accident and Emergency department at the local hospital, and eight – including one member of the Rotary Club of Northwick Park – were asked to seek further guidance from the GP in the coming week. That 5% of those tested needed to seek further advice demonstrates just how important this project is as a service to the local community.
