Our speaker on Wednesday 17th November was Sylvia Venis, Chairman of the Pinner Local History Society. Sylvia was present at the meeting when the society started in 1972, and was among the 150 members who enrolled at the first meeting. The society has a very professional newsletter and a web site (www.pinnerlhs.org.uk). The society has 3 major outings per year and several smaller ones. By taping the memories of older people, the society was able to publish a book about Pinner and its history as seen by the people living there. They have also published letters, and a book about they Pinner chalk mines! Mentioned in the Doomsday book as Pinora, there is plenty more history to discover. Well done Sylvia, a most interesting talk.
