Our speaker on Wednesday 29 August was Angela Dias, chief executive of Harrow Association of Disabled People. HAD is in its 40th year having been started by a small group of disabled people, for disabled people, as with many organisations, in a living room.
HAD now has 35 part time staff and 200 volunteers looking after eight thousand disabled people in Harrow. The eight thousand have diverse needs and HAD uses its skills in influencing, advocacy, working with Harrow Council and for carers. They help people with Welfare Benefits, employment, skills development and stand up for disabled rights.
If you would like to find out more or support their work, you can pop in to their weekday community cafe in High Street Wealdstone.
