Our meeting on 11 April 2018 was a business meeting at which our projects were progressed. The main project was the new Dementia Club with our neighbours in the Edgware & Stanmore Club, but there were other items too.
We had the “Good News” of a member’s daughter doing a Sky Dive from Salisbury Airfield and we heard about volcanoes and saucers from a member undoing a programme of eye treatment! Members of the Club had also been active visiting other Clubs and attending various events. The one event that must be mentioned was the Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland Conference held in Torquay between 6 – 8 April 2018 and a written report was circulated for those that could not go. We learned that this will be the last “Conference” as it will now change its name to “Showcase”.
We decided to support a local young person going to Nepal to teach English to students there as part of a volunteering programme, we decided to buy 5,000 more crocus corms to support End Polio Now, and we heard about the long list of inoculations required for a student from Harrow doing a year long Youth Exchange. Finally, good news for vegetarians, there will be a vegetarian option for the Salt Beef Brunch!
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to planning the first Dementia Club meeting. Three of our Club members will be required on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, arriving at John Keble Church at 13:45 for a 14:30 start, and finishing after tidying away when the Dementia Club Meeting has closed. CARERS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! Finally there was a reminder that our Blood Pressure Day event will be at Morrisons in Hatch End on Friday 08 June from 10am to 6pm.
Definitely a busy business meeting!
