Ros, Ritu,and Helen, presented a colourful visual flavour of their journey to the Convention, via Kula Lumpa and Kota Kinabalu. Day one: walking and sightseeing around the city, and visiting The Kuala Lumpa Tower, with views of Kuala Lumpa city. Day 2 began with a visit to the amazing Batu caves.A limestone outcrop located just north of Kuala Lumpur. Batu Caves has three main caves featuring temples and Hindu shrines. Its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, besides a steep 272 steps climb up, to finally view the stunning skyline of the city centre. A visit to the War Memorial, commemorating those who died in Malaysia in World War 11, for their struggle for freedom followed.Then on to the Pewter factory,with its fascinating history, and creativity, including jewellery and Star War characters. The final visit of the day, was to the chocolate factory,sampling and buying.
A two hour flight to Kota Kinabalu on the island of Borneo, to a 500 acre Hotel Complex with a nature reserve, explored by some, and a spa enjoyed by others. There were amazing sunsets every day, with a couple of short outbursts of torrential rain and showers. An oasis of calm relaxation for 3 days. A visit to the amazing floating Mosque, where appropriate dress was required to enter.A wonderful experience,prior to another 3 hour flight to Singapore
RI Convention 2024: 25th-29th May. Sharing Connections with the world. The first slide shows the opening ceremony with a photo of president Gordon McInally, the Scottish flag and the dragon.The presentations were many and varied with cultural events and projects. Members highlighted community projects and the peace efforts were inspiring. The 80 break out sessions, including Membership ,Leadership and Learning and The House of Friendship with its fifty plus stands had something for everyone to choose from and to be inspired by. The social interactions with Rotarians both at the Marina Sands Conference Centre and at other venues were fun, and enjoyable. Meals together forged friendships. The Foundation breakfast with keynote speaker the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore was such an event. Home hosting events were also enjoyed.A most memorable, loud, roof raising, Closing Ceremony with The Red Hot Chilli Pipers with bagpipes was an apt closing choice for Gordon. The RI Conference experience, is unique, and highlights the achievements of the organisation, its ethos and work. 13 thousand plus members attended Syngapore.
Singapore City.Many Iconic Buildings all around and much to enjoy. The two bus tours encapsulated Singapore’s history . The many temples and places of worship as well as the many statues mark the heritage of Singapore. The signage around the city and public notices everywhere are informative and entertaining.
