Our meeting on Wednesday 14 February 2024 (St Valentine’s Night) was an on-line meeting with a lot to discuss and several significant decisions were made. Before the decisions however there were a number of reports relayed from the Club Council Meeting, and also the District Council Meeting for all the Clubs in the London Area.
Members of the Club had attended several functions being run by other Clubs, and greetings were brought back from those Clubs. There was also a report on a visit to a local theatre (despite an Underground Line incident closing the line) where there had been a modern interpretation of the Greek play The Frogs by Aristophanes (Βάτραχοι).
There will be an Inter-Club Social Meeting on Wednesday 10 April when the Clubs in Northwest London will have a get together at Stanmore Golf Club. The Club voted once again to support its Easter Egg Project with a local women’s refuge, and the Club will be returning to the fundraising trail with a local supermarket in the near future.
The Club confirmed its decision to provide support for two incoming Global Grant Scholars studying at London Universities in the academic year 2024-2025, and a final selection has been made for our outgoing Youth Exchange student later this year.
There was news about the coming District Conference in Eastbourne at the District Council, and there was an interesting report on the Financial Accounts for the conference held in October 2023. The next District Council will be held face-to-face on Thursday 18 April 2024 at the Lancaster Hall Hotel.
Our next Club meeting will be face-to-face on Wednesday 21 February 2024 at 7:30pm in the Kenton Beefeater, and we will have a speaker: Nikita Raval from St Luke’s Hospice.
