Members of our Club assembled on Tuesday 30 April 2024 to help load a van from UK-AID with essential aid heading to Ukraine.
The treatment centre that our Club has been supporting since 2011, three years before the taking of Crimea from Ukraine, specialises in looking after children with genetic abnormalities resulting from the Chernobyl disaster on 26 April 1986.
The doses of radiation received either directly or indirectly made many sick, but also affected the DNA of those that survived. Whilst some thought that the problems would disappear in a generation, research has shown that not to be the case.
The centre has experienced bombing from the current conflict, but so far has been spared any major damage although surrounding buildings have been extensively damaged. All the members of the Club hope and pray that this will remain the case, and send their best wishes to their Ukrainian friends.
