Our meeting on Wednesday 27 March 2024 was a meeting with one of our own members as the Speaker. Ritu took on the role of guiding members through the Lendwithcare website.
Lendwithcare has been running since 2010, but the microfinance initiatives of Rotary International pre-date that by many years. Lendwithcare is a revolutionary way to help people in low-income countries to work their way out of poverty with dignity. Through Lendwithcare, you can lend as little as £15 to fund a small business. Once your money is repaid, you can choose to recycle your loan to support more low-income entrepreneurs, make a donation or withdraw your funds.
Lendwithcare currently operates in eleven countries and you can find out more about how Lendwithcare works here.
100% of the money loaned through Lendwithcare goes to the low-income entrepreneurs you choose to support. Please consider becoming a Lendwithcare Angel and making a monthly donation to help us expand Lendwithcare to even more countries and help more people to work their way out of poverty with dignity.
During her talk, the Club (under her expert guidance) supported a Chicken Farmer in Thailand and a Café/Restaurant start up in Zambia. The money donated to these enterprises and come back to the Club’s Account at Lendwithcare from previous loans to other enterprises that had now been repaid. Currently the Club has supported 51 such enterprises, and Lendwithcare. One attraction for Rotary Clubs is that the default rate on Lendwithcare loans is very low – their website currently shows only a 1% default rate.
Thank you Ritu. This was an intriguing talk that led to many questions for the members.
