On 5-6 October 2012 we had a visit from our proposed Rotary Contact Club of Sacile Centenario. Sacile is in North East Italy, not too far from Venice.
The Club had moved its normal meeting from Wednesday to Friday in order to be able to greet the visitors, but the weather that evening (it poured) conspired with London Underground (signal failure north of Harrow on the Hill) to thwart our plans. They were no match for the determination of the Rotarians at Northwick Park however, and we were able to provide a warm
reception at our normal venue for our first joint meeting. With the members of Northwick Park moving from table to table between courses, we all got to meet everyone else and were able to introduce ourselves. The meeting ended with the members of the Club making sure that all our visitors had a car ride back to their hotel in central London.
The following day, we made a walk through central London from their hotel to Covent Garden, see a wide range of architecture, a cottage, a number of ‘interesting shops’ and far too many Italian coffee bars and restaurants to count. The weather was fine with abundant sunshine, but even in the sun it was not warm.
The walk was a great success, and over coffee in Covent Garden a tentative arrangement was made for a return visit for the weekend of Ascension Day next year. Our thanks go to all those who put in so much work to set up the connection, and to plan the events over the two days.
