Our meeting on 18 October 2017 featured two local Chiropractors – James Bloom (left) and Adam Greenfield (right) from the Stanmore Chiropractic Clinic. But before they spoke to us, we heard about Evelyn’s recovering health and about refunds two members had experienced from their holidays! Members were reminded to put the pole in the cupboard and the wheel in the box – let’s hope they know what that means!
It was then over to the Doctors of Chiropractic. They started by examining stress and pain; stress kills whilst pain just hurts. They explained the three types of stress – Physical, Chemical and Emotional. Their solution to stress was D.R.E.A.M. That is
- Diet and Nutrition
- Rest and Relaxation
- Exercise
- Alignment
- Mental attitude and mindfulness
What they recommend is balance between the Sympathic and Parasympathetic energies. They start with the brain and spine on the basis that structure precedes function. If the structure is working properly, often the pain and discomfort goes, and so does the stress. The result is that full function can return. We learnt about the brainwaves, and the importance of posture and stance. Their clinic provides services to all types of people, and many types of problem; but they took care to emphasise that sometimes they tell their patients that their problem needs treatment from other medical professionals.
This was an interesting talk giving insight to the work of a Chiropractic Clinic.
