Many members of the Club made the journey up to Stratford upon Avon for the District Conference during the weekend of 20-22 October 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The weekend saw great fellowship amongst the Rotarians from London, and we were hosted by our Club President at the Ann Hathaway Tea Rooms in the High Street for a superb Saturday Lunch – an event that we all enjoyed enormously.
There is a mix of interesting speakers and entertainments at a District Conferenece, and this one was no exception. Whilst this is not the place for a full report, notable speakers included Inner Wheel’s Chairman, Rise Against Hunger, the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery, Rotaract in London, Dementia Clubs UK, and a motivational speaker, Michael Angelo Caruso, who comes from Michigan, USA. We also heard from Spark Inside, the Mission Aviation Fellowship, a School Rebuilding Project in Nepal, and a Consultant Psychologist specialising in psychopaths!
Key speakers included our District Governor, the Representative of the Rotary International President, and the 30 or so Rotary Scholars studying in London.
The entertainments included a performance of the entire works of William Shakespeare in 97 minutes, and a guitar playing DJ. There was a collection for the Rotary Shelterbox Project, and a raffle for champagne or a tea in the Shard Restaurant. But the best entertainment of all was the time we spent with our friends catching up on events, and discussing plans for the future.
