Our meeting on Wednesday 11 September 2019 was a business meeting, but before the business started we were introduced to Mahendra (right in the photo above), Past President of the Rotary Club of Khartoum in Sudan. Mahendra decided to copy the generosity of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which triples our contributions to Polio Eradication). He brought an extra two members of the family – Manish and Alok – who live locally to our Club!
President Rachelle announced a forthcoming visit to our local food bank, and called on the Club for additional support for the North London Disability Games. We also heard about the Presidents’ Reception and its BBQ, and the Youth Exchange meeting in Valencia, Spain. The was progress on the defibrillator at the local supermarket, and the news that a granddaughter had been accepted as a probationer in a Cathedral Choir.
We heard about the plans for the Macmillan Coffee Morning, the Youth competitions, our Lend With Care microfinance project, our Quiz Night, the Youth Exchange programme and much more besides. We then moved on to discuss the situation in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian, and the Club donated £500 to the long-term rebuilding project for people on the islands. An approach would be made to local supermarkets to see if we can extend that amount with a collection from the public.
The Fellowship Cup was then present to Helen and Dick for their work running around the neighbourhood assembling the different items needed for the Blood Pressure Day.
We all look forward to seeing Manish and Alok again in the near future.
