Rotarians from several Clubs around London convened at the home of one of our member on Friday 27 September 2019 for the Club’s annual Macmillan Coffee Morning.
Whilst you could be forgiven for thinking that the purpose of the event was to “Eat Cake!”, the real purpose was to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses, and to talk about what Rotary Clubs can do to support their work. All Macmillan nurses are registered with at least five years’ experience, including two or more years in cancer or palliative care. Some will have completed specialist courses in pain and symptom management, or psychological support, as appropriate.
Most Macmillan nurses work in NHS hospitals or the community. A small number work in hospices and private hospitals, but do not charge for their services. That is why the Club sees this as an important cause for which it can raise funds.
As you would expect, there was a raffle, and all the proceeds from the event will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
